Via The Associated Press:

“Squaw Valley USA, the iconic Lake Tahoe-area resort that has been home to some of the country’s top downhill skiers, is joining operations with neighboring Alpine Meadows in a deal to be announced Tuesday.”

“The merger comes as Tahoe resorts and business leaders are studying a bid for the Winter Olympics, perhaps for the next available Games in 2022. Squaw Valley president and chief executive Andy Wirth is part of that effort but said it’s too soon to tell if the merger will help Lake Tahoe’s effort.”

“In the near term, he and other resort officials hope the merger will boost tourism and make the area more attractive to skiers from abroad and other states.”

When I first moved to Tahoe(Alpine Meadows to be exact), Alpine didn’t even allow snowboarding. We used to hike to the top of Alpine and snowboard down. We definitely got a lot of dirty looks;) It’s a very exciting day to hear that the two mountains will now be one. I wish I could be there for the coming season!

November 3rd is shaping up to be a very big day. Canon and Red are both claiming some big announcements for that Thursday. While Red claims it will be announcing change to the long anticipated Scarlet and shipping dates before the end of the year… Canon only says “Canon is making an historic global announcement.” This could mean the 5DMKIII. Or a s35mm camera. Who knows? Both companies have the capability of making some serious waves as they both have literally changed the whole landscape of film-making over the past few years. Nov 3rd they will go head to head to try and do the same again over the coming future. All I know is that it will definitely be an exciting day!
